COVID-19 on the Rise Again 🤒💊🦠

COVID-19 is spreading rapidly once more. It's been a year and three months since the pandemic was declared endemic in May last year. According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA), the number of patients hospitalized due to COVID-19 has surged nearly sixfold. A recent variant, known as "Omicron KP3" has emerged, and its symptoms closely resemble those of the common summer cold, making it hard to distinguish between the two. Given this, wearing masks and ensuring proper ventilation remain crucial. Let's all stay healthy and safe during this hot summer! 🧊

Proud of our Paralympians!🏅

For the first time in Paralympic history, Korean athletes are competing in triathlon and canoe events!🙌 This year, Korea is participating in 17 different events, making it the largest delegation since the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Kim Hwang-tae is competing in the triathlon after losing both arms in an electrical accident. He says the exhilaration of crossing the finish line is what drives him and gives him a sense of self-worth. Despite concerns about water quality in the Seine River, where his event will be held, he remains undeterred. “I’ve heard the water quality isn’t great, but I’m not afraid,” he said. “This could be my last Paralympics, and no polluted water will stop me,” he added, showing his unwavering resolve.🔥

Choi Yong-beom, a rising star in Korean para-canoe, originally began as a canoeist. After losing his left leg in a traffic accident while working as a delivery driver, he secured his spot in the Paralympics in just 10 months. Choi has boldly declared his ambition to win a gold medal, saying, “Competing in the Olympics has been my life’s goal since I was able-bodied, and I’m already looking ahead to the next one.”

One of Korea's most important traditional holidays is ’Chuseok’. Celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, ‘Chuseok’ is a time when Koreans give thanks for the autumn harvest and honor their ancestors. Often referred to as ‘Han-ga-wi,’ this holiday is all about family.🧑‍🧑‍🧒 The day typically begins with a ceremony called ‘Cha-rye’, where families gather to pay respects to their ancestors. This tradition reflects Korea’s deep-rooted Confucian values and strong family-oriented culture. 🙌

A key part of Chuseok is making and eating ‘song-pyeon’, a traditional rice cake. 😋 ‘Song-pyeon’ is made by shaping dough from rice flour into small, half-moon shapes and stuffing them with fillings like sesame seeds, sweet beans, or chestnuts. 🫘🍯🌰 There’s even a fun, old belief that if you make pretty ‘song-pyeon’, you’ll have a beautiful daughter! This adds a playful, heartwarming touch to the family activity. ❤️

In the past, Koreans celebrated Chuseok with traditional games like ‘Gang’gang‘sul’lae‘ (a circle dance), ’tug-of-war‘, and ’ssi-reum‘ (Korean wrestling). 🤼These weren’t just games but ways to strengthen community bonds. Even today, many of these traditions are kept alive through festivals and events, connecting the past with the present.

During the Chuseok holiday, there’s a massive movement of people as they travel across the country to visit their hometowns. This shows how much Koreans still value family and tradition. Twelve years later, they reconnect by chance, but Haesung is unable to travel to New York, where Nora lives, and they lose touch again. Another twelve years pass, and Haesung finally visits Nora in New York. The film explores countless “what if” moments and the thread of fate that seems to keep pulling them together. What will become of them?

시장에는 떡볶이, 어묵, 튀김, 국수, 닭꼬치, 호떡 등 다양한 음식이 있었어요. 관광객들로 붐비는 시장을 이리저리 돌아다니며 맛있는 음식들을 담아올 수 있었어요! ✨

좌측부터 시계방향으로 기름떡볶이, 닭꼬치, 호떡, 슬러시, 열무국수, 떡꼬치예요. 기름떡볶이는 국물과 함께 끓여내는 일반 떡볶이와 다르게 기름으로 볶아 만드는 음식이에요. 제가 제일 기대한 음식은 호떡인데, 밀가루나 찹쌀로 반죽해 안에 설탕을 넣고 납작하게 눌러 지진 음식이에요. 달달해서 디저트로 좋아요.
