South Korea has successfully launched its third military reconnaissance satellite! Equipped with advanced SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) technology, this satellite can provide 24-hour surveillance regardless of weather conditions🌌
It will operate in coordination with the first reconnaissance satellite, enhancing the precision of detecting North Korean provocations📡. Next year, the fourth and fifth reconnaissance satellites are scheduled for launch, further bolstering South Korea's surveillance capabilities. Farmers Stage Tractor Protest with Overnight Standoff 🚜
Farmers from the Korean Peasants Union drove around 30 tractors into Seoul as part of a large-scale protest. They clashed with police at Namtaeryeong Go-gae, and some tractors even made their way to the Gwanghwamun area🚧.
The protesters are demanding the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol and opposing the government’s veto of the Grain Management Act. Many protesters have continued an overnight sit-in in Sadang, keeping tensions high at the scene😟. Police are reportedly focusing on managing the protest to prevent large-scale conflicts.

   The National Intelligence Service (NIS) reported to the National Assembly that it found no evidence of election fraud during its security inspection of last year’s general election.🤷 This report came after President Yoon Suk Yeol raised concerns about potential election issues and suggested the possibility of election fraud.

   During his presidential campaign and a later public address, President Yoon said, “How can people trust the results if the system managing the elections is in such disarray?” He then instructed the Minister of National Defense to conduct a review of the National Election Commission (NEC)’s system. However, the NIS confirmed that while there were security issues with the NEC system, no evidence of election fraud was found.🙅‍♂️ 

   'NEC', the National Election Commission, is a constitutional body responsible for managing elections and overseeing vote counting.🗳️ Its system handles voter data and election information, relying heavily on IT infrastructure, especially for early voting.🖥️  The NIS inspection revealed that this system was vulnerable to hacking. For instance, hackers could manipulate data to mark early voters as non-voters or vice versa. This concern grew after North Korean hackers accessed confidential documents by hacking an NEC employee’s email account.📧 

   After a fire at the Pangyo Data Center in 2022, the NEC conducted its own security reviews but refused external inspections, causing some controversy.⚔️ However, from May to June last year, the NEC accepted the NIS’s inspection request. The NIS inspected only 5% (317 out of 6,400) of the NEC’s IT devices and emphasized that it was difficult to conclusively determine election fraud based on such a limited sample.😓

   Following the inspection, the NIS recommended several improvements to address security vulnerabilities, which the NEC implemented earlier this year. The NIS clarified that its inspection aimed to assess the system’s vulnerability to hacking, not to investigate actual election fraud.🧐

   The NEC called allegations of election fraud “baseless claims” and criticized such accusations for undermining public trust in the electoral system and causing social unrest.😠 The NIS also warned against hastily linking security vulnerabilities to election fraud allegations, urging caution.
